What is AI share of voice?

AI share of voice is your brand's portion of all brand mentions in AI answers to the same question set. It shows relative position against competitors rather than absolute counts.

Why you need it

Knowing only whether you were mentioned does not show the competitive picture. If competitors are recommended more often on the same questions, you may be losing opportunity even when you appear.

How to calculate it

Fix a question set and collect answers per AI service. Extract the brands mentioned in each answer and divide your brand's mention count by all brand mentions. Keep the competitor list and question set fixed so periods can be compared.

Reading it carefully

Changing the question set changes the share. A wider competitor list lowers your share. Watch change over time under the same basis rather than a single number.

Metrics to read alongside

Order of mention, description accuracy, and cited sources.

Frequently asked questions

Is a low share always bad?

No. On niche questions with little competition a low share may mean little. Break down which questions you lose.
