What is AI search visibility?
AI search visibility describes how often a brand or piece of content appears in generative AI answers, and in what context and with which cited sources.
Key metrics
You can examine mention rate, placement in the answer, description accuracy, cited sources, and variation by question. A mention with a wrong description does not help, however high the visibility.
Unit of measurement
Build question sets by brand, product, or topic, then compare results under the same conditions across services, models, and dates.
Questions with and without the name
A question that includes the brand name, such as 'What is X?', tests awareness. A question without the name, such as 'Recommend a service for this', tests whether you are a recommendation candidate. The two mean different things, so do not average them together.
Engines differ
The same brand can get very different results across AI services. It is common to appear in a service that uses web search and not in one that uses only learned knowledge. Do not generalize from one service.
What to watch out for
Do not judge visibility from one answer. Repeat measurements across questions, models, and time. Personalization such as chat history or memory can also affect results.
How does it relate to SEO?
A high search ranking does not guarantee a mention in an AI answer. Track search visibility and AI-answer visibility separately.
Frequently asked questions
What should I check first if visibility is low?
First check whether named questions are answered correctly. If not, fix name and description. If they are correct but you are missing from nameless questions, build outside sources and answer-style content.
How many measurements are enough?
There is no fixed number, but repeat the same questions several times over several days. One result can be chance.
